Annette Zimmermann

Annette Zimmermann is an analyst in Gartner Research, where she is part of the mobile devices team, based in Munich, Germany. Ms. Zimmermann is involved in research on mobile devices in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, performing market share analysis and forecasts. Another important research topic of hers is the location-based-services market.

Previous Experience

Before joining Gartner, Ms. Zimmermann was a management consultant at Barkawi & Partner based in Munich, Germany. As a member of the telecommunications team, Ms. Zimmermann was involved in a worldwide benchmarking study of mobile network operators. She also gained insight into the network vendor and repair market by writing a business plan for one of the largest network equipment manufacturers in the market.

Patrick Connolly

Patrick Connolly is the director of IMS Research’s Mobile Radio & GPS group. Patrick’s focus is on the worldwide licensed and unlicensed mobile radio markets, as well as autonomous and network-based/assisted GPS solutions for cellular and portable devices, and emerging location technologies to be used in conjunction with GPS.

Patrick holds a BEng (honors) in electronic engineering from the University of Limerick, Ireland. He also undertook a two year masters by research on a commercial project into forward error corrections schemes for Philips.

Since January 2008 Jürgen Bartz is responsible for the European initiative “eCall” and “E112”. Based on different localization methods and additional individual casualty information the aim is to optimize the emergency services considering requirements from the EU and other stakeholders like the PSAPs, OEMs and MNOs.

Before joining the telematic sector Jürgen Bartz has been working as a Senior Consultant for a worldwide acting BPO provider (Service Center, Logistics and Finance) for eight years. As a certified Project Manager (IPMA/ GPM) he realized various businesses in the field of eCommerce, loyalty programs, document management systems, disease management, mail-order pharmacy and billing systems.

After studying business engineering with focus on traffic, transport and logistics he concentrated on telecommunications and OEM.

David Gordon

A veteran of the media and telecommunications industries, David Gordon currently serves as a director of strategic planning in the Mobility Group of Intel Corporation, with main focus areas in telecom service provider related features of Intel’s mobile platforms, as well as the planning of long-term research in the Mobility space. Specials areas of interest include LBS, roaming, and inter-connect regimes.

David served as Intel’s senior representative to the prominent service provider organizations, the GSM Association and the Fixed Mobile Convergence Alliance. In this context he was initiator of the 3G Notebook Initiative launched by the GSM Association and Intel, and a co-authored the recently published FMCA thought leadership paper – “The Road to Full Convergence”.

Prior to joining Intel, David was among the founders of the Orange cellular service in Israel, and later ran its multi-million dollar international business as Director of International Services. As a member of the extended management of the company, he participated over the years in numerous strategic efforts locally, as well as in the Orange and Hutchison global groups and the GSM Association.

Jacques De Kegel

Jacques De Kegel graduated as Master in Civil Engineering at the Catholic University of Leuven in 1978. He was active in highway construction, until he joined IBM in 1983, where he first became a Systems Engineer, before joining the IBM Belgium Sales Force in 1985. He now looks back on a successful Sales career of over 20 years, covering sectors like Education, Healthcare, Local Government, Utilities and Telco. Since January 2002, he also took responsible for development and sales of Wireless Solutions. On January 2008, he became a Business Development Executive within the Innovation & Technology Team at IBM Benelux, with responsibility for “Smart Mobility & Logistics  Solutions”. Jacques got rewarded with a Fellowship at the K.U.Leuven for his work in promoting RFID as the technology of the (near) future. He also got Certified as Telecommunications Industry Solutions Sales Specialist and is one of the founders of the European Center of Excellence for Voice Technologies.

In his 14 years at Ericsson Antonio held a number of senior positions in areas like Network Solutions for Mobile TV and end-to-end Quality of Service as well as in Business Development of Mobile Data and Data Charging. Kanwar Chadha has been responsible for establishing SiRF Technology’s vision, corporate strategies and strategic alliances. He has over 25 years of experience in various marketing and management positions. Most recently, he served as general manager of the multimedia group and director of strategic marketing at S3 Inc., where he led the development of innovative audio and video processing technologies.

Before joining S3, Mr. Chadha cofounded AQuesT Inc., a developer of multimedia and 3D graphics acceleration products and served as its chairman. Prior to his entrepreneurial ventures, he served at Intel in various product marketing positions, including product line manager for the i860 RISC processor and floating point coprocessors 8087/287/387.

Recently SiRF merged with CSR, a leader in Connectivity technologies.  Mr. Chadha is the Chief Marketing Officer of CSR and a member of its Board of Directors.

Mr. Chadha received his BS in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi and later his MS in CIS from the University of Pennsylvania simultaneously with an MBA from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.

He has also developed a broad understanding of the healthcare industry and led Qualcomm's foray into that space by partnering with a diagnostic services company who introduced the first wide area wireless enabled cardiac health diagnostic service in 2004. More recently Paul has turned his attention to promulgating the realization of a broad class of personal "telemetry" devices for use in health, fitness, wellness and personal safety solutions. He refers to this application of wireless technology as "personal telematics" and further defines it as a combination of LBS and physiological data monitoring.

Terry joined Ubisense in 2004 to lead the EurAsia sales activities.  During the 80’s Terry occupied several management positions in Germany and US at Computervision (now Parametric Technology Corp.), the CAD/CAM vendor focussed on manufacturing and process plant design, ultimately being responsible for marketing its 200 M$ MEDUSA product line.  He joined Smallworld, the Geographic Information Systems company, in 1991 and built the German subsidiary from scratch, driving growth to become market leader with 160 people.  Smallworld was sold to GE in 2000 and Terry then lead a European Sales team as Sales Director for a division of GE Energy.

Ian Sheret is the founder of Polymath, a technology consultancy which specialises in solving complicated, difficult or ambiguous problems in the processing and interpretation of data. EENA, the European Emergency Number Association, was set up in 1999 as a non-profit association registered in Belgium to serve as a neutral discussion platform for emergency services, industry and informed citizens with the aim of getting efficient, interoperable and harmonised emergency telecommunications in accordance with citizens' requirements. EENA has been advocating to authorities the issues related to the 112 as there are more and more EU citizens travelling for business or leisure. EENA is also promoting the establishment of a general, pan-European, multilingual, simplified and efficient system for alerting citizens about imminent or developing emergencies.

Gary Machado is a Project Manager at EENA, the European Emergency Number Association. Gary is in charge of raising the awareness of elected politicians about the knowledge and functioning of the European emergency number 112. He coordinated the launch of a Written Declaration in the European Parliament asking the European Union to approach this issue from a new, innovative and pragmatic point of view. This Written Declaration was signed by 530 MEPs and therefore reached a record of signatures. I addition to his work with the EU institutions, Gary is in charge of the EENA Advisory Board that gathers politicians, associations of emergency services and solutions providers. He is now managing since July 2009 for EENA the project REACH112 that intends to improve the accessibility of 112 for people with disabilities.

Jérémie Bouchaud is unique to the MEMS industry, his breadth of MEMS device and application knowledge is unmatched, particularly in terms of automotive, consumer markets and RF MEMS.  He was a founder and head of MEMS research for WTC - Wicht Technologie Consulting, acquired by iSuppli in April 2008.  At iSuppli, Jérémie is responsible for the MEMS service area.

The success of WTC - Wicht Technologie Consulting is due to a large degree to the MEMS research which Jérémie developed.  In the course of his career, Jérémie has led over 100 MEMS-related market research endeavors.  Prior to WTC, he oversaw technology transfer for  sensors and MEMS at the German office of CEA-LETI

Sara Murray graduated from Oxford University with an M.A. Hons in Physiology, Psychology & Philosophy. Murray started her career in management consultancy with ZS Associates and later moved to Hambros Bank to work in Asset Finance.

In 1992 she started her first business, Ninah Consulting - a marketing consultancy advising multi-national corporates on their marketing effectiveness. It has been adopted by some of the world’s largest consumer brands, beginning with SmithKline Beecham and later including HBOS, Diageo, the AA, CGNU, Comet and Coca-Cola Schweppes.

In 1999, Murray founded inspop.com, an online insurance marketplace. Having built the customer base to 250,000 and renamed it confused.com, she sold the company to the Admiral Group 18 months later.

She launched herself on a mission to develop buddi after her daughter Rowena disappeared at a Sainsbury’s superstore several years ago. This started her to think about a better way to give both her and her daughter peace of mind. After two years of research and development in GPS technology Sara’s idea of buddi – an innovation in personal safety - became a reality and she is now working on building buddi into a global business.

Sara is a non-executive Director of Schering Health Care, a pharmaceutical market leader in the area of women’s health.  She is also a founding board member of Seedcamp, an intensive week long event held in September in London targeted at young entrepreneurs from across EMEA. Sara is an avid skier, sailor and runner, and loves spending time with her daughter.
